Short but Sweet

Last time we saw the Ryuzaki family things were full of excitement as Kaze announced that they would all be flying to China. The twins were neutral and Kai seemed as if he could care less. The only one who was absolutely ecstatic was Rei, and she simply couldn’t wait.

The moment they arrived at the main camp ground everyone prepared to take off instantly, stopped only by Kaze who stood in their way. He then told them the catch and true purpose of the “vacation.” He had received an opportunity to deliver one of his books to the local bookstore owner. Even though they could stay for 3 days he told them they most likely wouldn’t even stay 2 full days. He forgot his laptop and needed to get back home to work on his latest drama novel “Three Sisters One Bathroom.”

Rei was obviously disappointed and bolted off not to waste another moment. Kai left to go sightseeing and Amy went to the hotsprings. Kaze left to deliver the book first and foremost. As for the twins Mai and Fei, they found themselves at the academy, they found a peculiar interest in chess and played each other.

Rei was the first to make it to the academy and didn’t hesitate to begin her long awaited training in sim-fu.

Her disciplined trait seemed to be glowing in her as she trained diligently.

After seeing the sights Kai joined his sister at the academy, he thought it would be nice to learn sim-fu so he trained. Though not nearly as hard or focused as his younger sister.

After Kaze delivered his book he joined his wife Amy at the academy. He enjoyed the quiet of the small village and was sure to check the local bookstore for new titles to read. Apparently Amy had already finished her shopping which included everything from different types of Koi fish, and incense to a full blown wooden dummy for Rei. (Of course, Rei was unaware of this.) They spent the rest of their day reading and watching the twins. Apparently the twins began to take chess very seriously and became major rivals.

In what seemed like a blink of an eye Rei had already earned her belt and stopped only long enough to eat an apple. She marched right back to the wooden dummy to continue training. It was clear, she was pushing herself… She knew her family wasn’t going to stay for the full three days and she didn’t want to waste a moment.

Though she was very tired and sore Rei acquired yet another belt! It was then that she realized how worn out and tired her body was, so she went with her mom to relax in the hot springs. She intended to keep training, but a stern look from her mother told her she needed to let her body rest. They were on vacation, and she didn’t want her daughter to end up in the hospital from exhaustion. It must have been obvious that Rei was pushing herself much harder than she should.

Nightfall came and everyone enjoyed a good night’s rest. Kaze made it clear that they would be leaving at the end of their first day, but after seeing Rei’s determination it was obvious that she was passionate about sim-fu. He didn’t want to force her to leave so suddenly just for his schedule’s sake. No one was interested in exploring despite the fact that the board was full. So he told them that they would stay for a 2nd day, but after that it would be time to go home. Rei in particular was overjoyed to hear the news and rushed to bed. She wanted to wake up bright and early.

Sure enough, just as the sun crept over the hills and began to rise Rei was awake. She had showered, dressed and taken off to the academy before anyone else was even awake. This time however she was training breaking boards. This was her last day, and she made sure she was focused…

After a day of random events the day came to a close. Though Rei claimed that time flew much too fast! (she had been training all day) Regardless everyone gathered and prepared to leave. No matter how much Rei pleaded to stay for the last day but Kaze denied her. There was much to do at home, and he needed to return.

Though the family’s “vacation” was short and uneventful it was a nice change of scenery, but what was it that Kaze needed to do? Why was he in such a rush to head back home? He seemed to be just fine until he received that phone call on his cell… He didn’t tell anyone but Kai saw it, he saw his father answer his cell with no sense of urgency. Yet ever since he hung up with someone named Marion he had been ancy. Something was going on back at home, he didn’t know what, but he knew this “Marion” person had something to do with it…

I know this chapter was unusually short, but so was the trip to China. I originally had not planned on going, and only did it to complete an opportunity. The other chapters won't be this short, that much is a fact. Still, I hope you enjoy it. ^_^
